Thom Piper, Jr. Obituary

Thom Kindall Piper Jr., age 78, of Kingston, Tennessee passed away on July 16, 2026, after a long battle with Lewy Body and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Born February 3, 1948, in Hollywood, California, Thom lived life to its fullest. A devout Christian for much of his life, he none-the-less found ways to be a prankster and commit mayhem. His wit and sense of humor drew people from all walks of life to him. After many decades, Thom retired from his career as a renowned Optical Sound Technician having worked at most of the major movie studios in Hollywood. Following retirement, Thom and his wife bought a ranch in Arizona where he lived out his life-long dream of owning cattle. It was there health symptoms began appearing, so he moved back to California to seek treatment. After visiting his son in Knoxville one 4th of July, Thom and Lynn fell in love with Tennessee. They soon bought a home and retired in Kingston. Thom was a devoted student of Christianity, as witnessed by the hundreds of volumes of books he compiled. After moving here, he became a faithful member of Morrison Hill Christian Church and made many wonderful friends there. In California, Thom had been a longtime member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Ventura. After relocating here, he joined the Kingston Masonic Lodge, but his declining health prevented him from participating fully. Outside of work, Thom found great joy in both his ever-growing family and being a cowboy who trained horses. He was known for his great sense of humor, gregariousness, and ability to share Christ anytime, anywhere. He was always extremely proud of his family and carried the name of Piper like a badge of honor. Smart, quick witted, and charming, Thom left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His stories will be passed down from generation to generation.

Thom is survived by his loving wife of many years, Lynn Piper. His children: Thom Piper III of Miami Florida, Charlie Piper and wife Mandy of Knoxville, Travis Piper and wife Amber of Knoxville, and Kindall Piper and husband Christopher of Knoxville. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Eli Piper and wife Miranda, Sean Piper and wife Kaitlyn, Anna Piper and husband Lars Severson, William Piper, Kierin Piper, Hattie Piper, Torin Piper, Scarlett Piper, Charlie Rae Piper, Ronin Piper, Jack Piper, and Christiana Piper as well as his great-grandchildren: Cash Severson, Rhodes Severson, Seamus Piper, Killian Piper and Marshall Piper. Additional family: Tim “Gup” Hugi and wife Candice Hugi and their children: Rudy, Roark, and Ryatt Hugi as well as other extended family members and friends. Thom was preceded in death by his parents, Thom Kindal Piper Sr. and Marjorie Piper. His Legacy of faith, family, and friendship will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
